Miami Circle

Once the land was cleared after the apartments were torn down, a curious circle of holes was discover in the bedrock a couple of feet below a rich archeological midden. The discovery of what has sense been referred to as the Miami Circle, led to an organized protest to stop the construction of the tower. Ultimately, the protest was successful and the property was fenced off while the State of Florida figured out what to do with it. One of the tactics which the protesters used was to mount a web-cam across the river at the old Dupont Plaza Hotel. The web-cam allowed people from around the world to witness the struggle in real time. This particular action was significant to the FRE because it is an example of how the internet can be used to affect public policy.
